Life would be more rewarding if there were no borders preventing people from understanding each other.
As I continue to find new ways to get myself back out into the world and live in another country I have learned that there is a community for these type of people called Digital Nomads. I was once called a nomad by someone because of moving and living in different cities in the states and then that year that I lived abroad in Spain. I never felt like my hometown was my home but I have now learned that there isn’t really a place where I can call home.
And I am not the only one that feels this way. A lot of digital nomads enjoy traveling and living in new countries every month or however often they feel like. For some, they might eventually find a place where they can call home but for others they feel a piece of home in every place that they visit. That is what I strive for in my life and why I have such a passion to travel. Not that I am wanting to run away from where I come from but because I want to run to where I feel I belong.
Do you ever feel like the world would be better without borders?
Let me digress and say that someone that is close minded would feel that having no borders allows for more crime and for people to steal or takeover. Well I think that didn’t stop European colonizers when the waters were borders and protected the natives on other continents from them. Unlike colonizers, there are people that actually want to learn and experience other people and cultures and not take what they have to claim for themselves.
In an open minded approach, having open borders and being citizens of the world will allow people to understand how others live and share their culture with one another. However, a lot of Americans and their ancestors did not want to learn from the natives but instead took everything that they had and created a border around them i.e. a reservation or just created wars that pushed their imaginary borders further down.
The irony that when Americans or those from countries that participated in colonization get to call themselves expats as they live abroad but those from countries that were colonized and not given the opportunity to thrive get called immigrants or illegals when they live abroad. Nothing makes us different from them wanting to find a better home or a place where they feel safe. And as I see in the news the favoritism with the kind of people that are allowed to come into these countries freely to escape war it makes me so upset.
Sometimes I wish that natives and people who have had their land taken from them, whether it be from war, colonization, etc. or that were taken from their original land through slavery can be given a new land with fresh resources and away from those that only care to steal and appropriate their culture.
World Travelers
To get back on track with this blog, another reason I want to become a digital nomad is to find a way to share the resources that allow me to travel with those that don’t feel like they have the same opportunities. I understand my privilege as an American citizen to be able to travel freely to most countries and have the opportunity to get jobs in other countries just because my first language is English. I have met people in countries that don’t have the same ability but also dream of traveling and experiencing different countries and cultures.
By sharing my experiences of how I have been able to travel I hope to be apart of an organization or maybe create my own that provides these resources for people. I actually do have an idea for a non-profit that I have wanted to create since I was 17 years old that has a similar goal and agenda. I continue searching for opportunities that will allow me to get to a place where I feel like I am the right person to help others in that traveling aspect. I hope to show people that this should be available to all and that without these borders we are all just people trying to live with where we are at the time and what we are given.
