When people ask me what some of my favorite countries that I visited in Europe are, Montenegro is definitely in the top 3. As I was staying in Croatia at the time I wanted to see some of the surrounding countries. So I decided to book a day trip to Montenegro for about 40 euros.
Church on the Bay
With this day trip we would be visiting two cities, the first being Kotor. Once in Kotor we took a small boat to this small church that was located in the middle of the bay surrounded by beautiful mountains. We looked around this little church that had interesting religious paintings on the ceilings. Similar to what you would see at the Vatican or other Catholic churches. I don’t remember much of the significance but it’s always nice to look at.

The atmosphere on this bay was so quiet and tranquil and made you really just enjoy the surroundings.
Sidenote: I was actually hungover on the bus ride to Montenegro because the night before one of the travelers at my hostel brought us some Croatian wine and I might of had a bit too much lol.
During the rest of the visit in Kotor I was still recovering so I decided to just enjoy the city and get some lunch as I played with the many cats that they have roaming around.
Beautiful Budva

Not many cities took my breath away as I was traveling. Paris was beautiful but was kind of what I expected. London was definitely a site to see but still was typical for a big European city. However, hidden away behind these high, snow covered mountains was the city of Budva.
I had never seen anything like it before. It was a mix of Colorado mountain vibes, beachfront hotels like in Miami, bright blue water on the Mediterranean Sea and the charming 2,500 year old Old Town that brings history and modern in the same space.

Now granted a lot of the newer modifications I learned were brought from the influx of Russian investors and tourists. Still the city was gorgeous and when I adventured around I finally ended up on this beach front where a lot of the locals were just enjoying the cool, sea breeze and watching as the sun was going down.

Milada from Budva
That is when I met this lovely lady named Milada. As I was sitting across her and a group of friends she invited me to join them. She asked what I was doing visiting Montenegro and how I was enjoying it so far. She shared with me how I reminded her of her daughter who was also studying abroad at that time. As a native to Montenegro she told me of some other places that I should visit and how she owns a river rafting company that I should do when I come back to visit. To this day I still have her as a friend on Facebook and I always remember this encounter and how great this day had turned out after the start.
